WebLayoutnaBox – Grids and Colors make the world go round

WebsitenaBox.com carefully and methodically incorporates various elements of web-design, including grid theory principles, color schemes and a blend of layout schemes that lead to ultimate usability for guests...

In the web world content is king, yet core enhancements in the visual layout of a web page can significantly increase or decrease the amount of time spent on a site by a visitor, as well as the number of pages viewed during the course of that visit.

With this in mind, one can reach the conclusion that the layout of a web page is the most significant aspect to increasing traffic to a site, no matter the quality of content and functionality.

Grid Theory

It is easy to find websites of varying success, most of which have been built and maintained for many years that violate some essential grid theory principles.

Grids are not only vital for engineers and architects but WebSitenaBox.com designers as well.

The purpose of a grid is not only making thing be square and line up: it's about proportion as well.

Using the "rule of thirds" (rule of turds) and the "divine proportion" (divide length by 1.62) we implement artistic laws that date back to the very essence of how art has come to be. When a professional designers and artists go to work, you can bet that these concepts are put to good use.

Center aligning everything may at first glance create balance, but in the end create a boring web design.

Colors

Understanding colors and how they can alter emotions instantly, can help bring the full capabilities of effective web design to life.

When working with various artists and businesses, it is important that a site blends the colors that most represent who and what you are. While the WebSitenaBox team feels comfortable developing color schemes based on information provided from clients, it is also important that a client understands what colors truly represent what they are truly all about.

Here is a quick rundown on various colors and the purposes they serve:

  • Red

Know to stimulate adrenaline and blood pressure, along with increasing human metabolism. Exciting, dramatic and rich in color; red is the color of passion. Love is often represented by bright red, while darker shades indicate indulgence. Harvest season brings out the color of red. Interestingly, bleeding from red, anger can often arise.

  • Orange

Orange is similar to red in that it is active and energetic, although it differs in that it does not evoke the previously described anger. Happiness, sunshine, enthusiasm, and creativity all arise from orange colors. It is an informal color and perhaps you are more likely to wear your orange tie or blouse on a Friday. Oarnge make people hungry, generally speaking.

  • Yellow

Yellow is a highly active and visible color, which is why it is used for taxicabs and cautions signs. When you think of yellow, think of energy (the sun) and think of you happy place (smiley face). The original color of Gatorade utilized a Yellow and orange color scheme, which is no surprise. Yellows energy can result in additional crying, fighting and other energy seeping activities heightened when surrounded by this powerful color.

  • Green

Everyone is going green these days, which is great for the environment. It is a soothing color that represents growth, freshness and hope. When light green is set on top of a dark background, the color can pop off the screen, giving it a "techy" kind of feel to it.

  • Blue

Feeling the Blues? Feeling open? Do you need a hug? If you answered yes to these questions, than blue is most likely prevalent in your life, and should be embraced in a touchy-feely sort of way. Openness, intelligence, faith and a reduced appetite- all represented by the color blue- and all utilized by computer giants like Dell and HP.

  • Purple

Woman who wore purple were once know as "defiant". Purple is commonly associated with royalty and power and is one of the hardest colors to produce. For this reason, it has always represented wealth and power. Flowers, gemstones and sunsets all can showcase this color that is always sure to stand out in a crowd.

  • White

Clean, perfect, pure, filled with light-white is the crispest color around. Made for detergent commercials, white is meant for a virgin bride, or at least anyone who feels an untainted emotion for their loved one. White is our default background color but if utilized correctly can make the biggest statement.

  • Black

Power, elegance and strength are often overlooked by negative connotations such as death and evil, but black is as versatile as it is simple. Johnny Cash was the "Man in Black" and while dark and mysterious, he was one cool cat. His deep, brooding voice can penetrate souls and perhaps reveal things about fellow man that others do not care to consider without encouragement. Ironically, something painted black can really help someone see the light.

Color temperatures, additive color models, RGB and CMYK color wheels all can be understood and applied utilizing these core color principles.

The spacing and design of colorful objects within a web layout can truly bring a website to life.

The Websitenabox way not only utilizes these design parameters, we leave the competition scratching their heads. Whether you are going for a business, business casual or artistic look and feel -we understand how to bring it all together.
